How to Find the Best Alaskan Cruise

The way to find the best Alaskan cruise for you is to ask the right questions of the qualified cruise agent with whom it’s best to book your cruise.  We find that asking the following questions helps narrow your selection from the many cruises available to one that will meet your budget and your unique requirements.

Which part of Alaska’s magnificent coastline do you want to see?

The two main routes for large cruise ships are The Inside Passage – a return trip from Seattle or Vancouver to the Panhandle and back and the Gulf of Alaska – a one way trip from Vancouver to Whittier or Seward.  Decide whether or not you want to travel further than the islands and fjords of the Inland Passage along the gulf and into Prince William Sound before disembarking to take a land tour or fly home.

What type of cruise ship best suits your needs?

Take a look at the informative brochures provided by all reputable cruise companies.  Most provide a fairly similar on-board experience throughout your cruise although each company reflects its own ‘style’.  Decide whether you need an cruise style that meets the mainly relaxed needs of families on vacation or has a more sophisticated atmosphere.

What is the extent of your cruise budget?

Believe it or not, the best Alaskan cruise can vary a great deal in cost.  The cruise line and the time of your vacation will impact on this.  The quality and position of your room (cheaper inside rooms or more expensive deluxe rooms outside) will also determine the cost of your cruise.  The costs of land excursions available at ports of call vary depending on their content and length.  Always clarify what aspects of your cruise are included in your upfront costs as well as the nature of the ‘additional extras’.

Are you attracted to the resort nature of crusies or the scenery?

Smaller cruises are generally a more casual travel experience where you can get closer to the spectacular scenery and to your travel companions.  Larger cruises include more formal practices like dressing for dinner and offer an incredible range of activities in addition to enjoying the scenery.

Be prepared to inform your experienced cruise agent the answers to these questions and fast track your goal of finding the best Alaskan cruise for you.
