Alaskan Cruise Departure Points – 4 of the Best

Alaskan cruise vacations depart from an initial port of call and the most popular Alaskan cruise departure points are Vancouver, Seattle, Seward and Anchorage. They are easily accessible and often the beginning of a cruise north in the case of Seattle and Vancouver and south from Anchorage or Seward.

Seattle is a beautiful city and a commonly used port from which to begin a cruise. Because it is so close to the Canadian border it accommodates travelers from the US and Canada and is a convenient place from which to start a cruise. Seattle is easy to travel to by air. Its airport is a hub for traffic from all around the world. Seattle’s easy access makes it not only a good Alaskan cruise departure city but also a suitable place to draw your cruise to a conclusion.

Vancouver, one of Canada’s most interesting and developing cities, accommodates Alaskan cruise departures on a large scale. It is located close to the border on the Canadian side and its location allows cruise ships to easily access the Pacific Ocean. Vancouver is about a four hour drive from Seattle so cruise travellers sometimes choose to depart from one of these cities and conclude their cruise at the other.

Anchorage is a departure point for cruises beginning in Alaska. Cruise ships can easily access the city which is located at the end of Cook Inlet near Alaska Bay which leads to the Pacific Ocean. Anchorage is Alaska’s largest city where there is much to see and do on land and because of thisand its proximity to the western coast of this state, it is an excellent departure point for cruises that are heading south.

The smallest of the Alaskan cruise departure points is the popular Alaskan town of Seward, located in central south of Alaska near Resurrection Bay. Starting your cruise in Seward will provide the opportunity to see some of a number of nearby glaciers.  Exit Glacier a land glacier is a 15 minute bus ride from the town and a great place to start. Cruises travelling south from Seward will also explore College Fjord and Glacier Bay. You can travel to Seward by bus, train, car or plane from Anchorage depending on how quickly you want to arrive there.

These are the best Alaskan cruise departure points and they are all ideal places to begin or end your cruise. They all have easy access to deep stretches of water in common and they are all interesting locations in themselves with plenty to investigate in the land compnent of your Alaskan cruise vacation.
